about

Soul Expressions, brings together an incredibly diverse range of powerful Canadian and American Hip-Hop artists and skillful emcees. Taking part in this debut are Ghettosocks, Aquakultre, Touch, and Timbuktu from Canada, and Justo The MC and Cam James from the music-meccas of New York and Atlanta.

Through vibrantly jazzy and soulful samples, DK sought out those that truly understand the combination of rhythm and poetry to put their own spin on the tracks and help restore the importance of lyricism that stays true to the art. Ready to break away from simplistic hooks that quickly burnout and fade away – he went on a mission to bring authentic wordsmiths into his music with the aim to make the most of every moment on the mic.

Described by the Halifax’s Arts and Entertainment Newspaper, THE COAST as someone “who is immediately set apart from the producer pack by his love of sampling drums from vintage vinyl,” DK is determined to take it all worldwide and to put the spotlight directly onto the art of rhyme.

Each audio-canvas produced by DK contains a stunning combination of textures in sound, like dusty vinyl drums and analog synths, as well as highly inventive, innovative and fresh instrumentation like the live bass, keys, horns, and organs. This distinctive sound offers a unique opportunity for emcees to paint their own pictures in words.

With beats that harken right back to the golden age of real Hip-Hop and a crew full of talent capable of carrying out his vision, the versatile songs on Soul Expressions are guaranteed to move the mind, body, and soul.
